Field Trip to see Sandhill Cranes
Saturday, January 7
Carpool leaves Common Ground at 9:00 a.m.
Join OWCA for a visit to Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge in Meigs County on Saturday morning, January 7, 2017 to see Sandhill Cranes and other birds. Hiwassee is justifiably famous for the thousands of wintering Sandhill Cranes, along with numerous other waterbirds, plus Bald Eagles. The drive takes a little over an hour from Crossville. We will visit several viewing sites there and along the river, including the Cherokee Removal Memorial. Bring binoculars and a bird field guide. Ed LeGrand (931-788-1846) will be our bird expert and will bring a spotting scope. Please dress warmly! We’ll leave from Common Ground (405 4th St.) in Crossville at 9:00 AM. Return in about 4 hours.
Invasive Plant Fighters Needed
We’re going to be fighting the invasive plants again this winter and we could use a few volunteers. Because it needs to be above freezing (the warmer the better), we don’t have specific dates in mind, but if you’d like to help with eliminating invasive plants from the CoLinx wetland area or Centennial Park, please give Dennis a call at 210-3611 and he’ll give you a few days notice before they go out. It’s mainly cutting and painting the larger plants and pulling the small seedlings. We’ll be focusing mainly on privet.February
