Saturday, October 6, 2018  9:00 a.m.  Cumberland Mountain State Park

This is our lucky seventh year with our 5K fundraising event and we're back to the State Park on our shaded park roads.  There is a gentle hill in the middle of the course but otherwise the course is gently rolling.  We're partnering again with RaceEntry to handle our on-line registration.  Click on the highlighted link in the left column to register this way.  You can also stop by the park and pick up a registration form and mail it in.  There is a discount if you share the race on social media and there are again team discounts for five or more runners (or walkers).  Registration is again $25 for the 5K and $15 for the Fun Run.  T-shirts are provided for 5K registrants and we have our popular "woodals" (our medals made of wood) for top three finishers, male and female, in each of the 12 age groups.  We are grateful for our corporate sponsors:  CoLinx, Veolia NA, Manchester Tank, Highland Federal S & L, First Bank, Ecotravel Plaza, and Stonehaus Winery.  Questions, call Bill Morgan at 931-456-9040.

Wild and Scenic Film Festival

Thursday, October 25, 7:00 p.m

Get TICKETS! Click here! Palace Theater, Main St, Crossville

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, signed in October of 1968, OWCA is celebrating Tennessee's only National Wild and Scenic River, the Obed, by hosting a film festival.  Partnering with the South Yuba River Citizen's League (SYRCL) which hosts an annual Wild and Scenic River Film Festival, we have selected the best of their collection that ties into both the Scenic Rivers anniversary and our work to protect and enhance our own watershed.  These are professionally made films that range in length from 4 to 12 minutes and include a mix of simple appreciation films for fishing and boating in clean waters to more descriptive ones that highlight efforts of communities to improve and protect their rivers.  The festival is supported by both national sponsors and local ones.

As SYRCL says, "We are extremely proud to be supported by each one of our following National Sponsors: Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, CLIF Bar, Earthjustice, Klean Kanteen, Peak Design and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. These like-minded companies have joined Wild & Scenic in a shared campaign to support environmental film in an effort to inspire activism and increase the groundswell of the environmental movement. Together they support all of our Tour Hosts and your environmental groups, clubs and organizations across the country to host Wild & Scenic On Tour. Our National Partners make the tour possible!  Without their support, we would not be able to share these inspiring films with our hosts and the 160+ communities worldwide. In return, we ask for your reciprocated support of their companies and current environmental campaigns."

Locally, we are still signing up sponsors, but the following are on board so far:  Silvara Stone, TN Chapter of Sierra Club, Outdoor Experience, Plateau Properties,  and Clark and Teresa Annis.  We will be signing up additional sponsors through August 25.

All tickets will be purchased through the Palace Theater's website.  Cost is $10.00.  Please click here to go to that website (This link will become active on August 27).  Tickets go on sale on August 27.

OWCA Annual Meeting

Tuesday, October 16th  5:00 p.m.

Common Ground, 405 4th St

All members are invited to our Annual Meeting where we elect our Board and officers for the next year.  The Annual Meeting is followed by food and social time, so please come and participate in your organization.  We are always looking for new board members, so if you think you might want to serve OWCA in this way, please get in touch with Brad Fox, OWCA's President, to discuss what it means to be a board member and to be sure you are nominated.

Sign-up time for Kroger Community Rewards

August is sign-up time for Kroger's Community Rewards program.  This is a pain-free way to support OWCA.  Kroger donates 5% of the purchases to OWCA.  This does not affect your fuel points or any other program that provides you with discounts.  To sign up you need to go to the Kroger website, go to "savings and rewards," then Kroger Community Rewards Program.  Once you sign in, related to your Kroger Card, you'll be asked which organization you want to support.  You can type in our name or use the number Kroger has assigned us -EI719
