 August Activities

Work Day At Centennial Park

Wednesday morning, August 16

Meet at Centennial Park office (middle driveway) at 9:00 a.m.

It's been a few years since we did any heavy maintenance at Centennial Park and it's time for some heavy work.  We'll be removing some invasive trees and shrubs that have popped up and thin some of the black willow that have really exploded.  We'll work until noon getting as much done as possible to get the area back to the natural landscaping we designed.  Call Dennis at 484-9033 to let him know you're coming.

The Tennessee Passionflower

Tuesday, August 22nd 4:00

Roane State Community College, Crossville Campus

Dr. Shawn Krosnick of Tennessee Tech, the new Director of their Herbarium will be giving a talk for OWCA on her research specialty, the Tennessee Passionflower, as well as describing the work of the herbarium and how volunteers can be involved. The passionflower has many unusual characteristics worth discussing and while the UT Herbarium has no evidence of the plant in Cumberland County, there are a number of places where it has been observed – a testament to how “amateurs” can be involved in documenting the presence of various plants.
