C.W. is a curious, hardworking little trail dog who loves the outdoors and never minds getting his boots muddy. He represents perseverance, stewardship, and the simple power of showing up — values at the heart of OWCA's work.
C.W. and Friends are OWCA's friendly guides for families and young stewards. Together, they help introduce kids and first-time volunteers to the Obed River watershed — showing how small actions like picking up litter, learning about wildlife, and caring for our waterways can make a real difference.
Our family-friendly, beginner-friendly opportunities make stewardship accessible, hands-on, and enjoyable for all ages — no experience required.
Short, one-time volunteer opportunities
Family-friendly events where children are welcome with a supervising adult
Outdoor activities focused on hands-on learning and exploration
Flexible ways to get involved that fit busy schedules
Most activities last 1–3 hours, and many are designed as one-time opportunities. Activities are often suitable for elementary and middle school ages, with parents or guardians encouraged to participate alongside their children. All opportunities are planned to be safe and welcoming.
Families and young stewards can participate in a variety of hands-on activities, including :
Stream and trail clean-ups
Guided hikes and outdoor learning activities
Native plant and pollinator projects
Citizen science and observation activities
Community events focused on stewardship and education
No experience required — OWCA provides guidance, tools, and support. Families, students, and community members regularly join OWCA for cleanups, hikes, and seasonal stewardship projects.
Small actions add up. Learning about the watershed, caring for outdoor spaces, and spending time in nature help build a lifelong connection to the Obed River and the communities that depend on it.
By involving families and young people today, we help ensure healthy streams, habitats, and outdoor spaces for future generations.
Whether you're looking for a one-time activity, a family outing with purpose, or a simple way to give back, there's a place for you at OWCA.

Many middle school, high school, and college students are encouraged or required to complete community service hours as a part of scholarships, academic programs, service-learning courses, or extracurricular commitments.
OWCA welcomes student volunteers and can provide documentation of volunteer hours upon request. Opportunities vary by season and may include outdoor stewardship projects, educational events, and community activities.
Students and families are encouraged to confirm specific service requirements with their school or scholarship program in advance.
Volunteer hours may be tracked through OWCA events and activities when coordinated in advance.
